On 3 March 1986 seven young activists were driven in a minibus taxi to job interviews. The driver, unbeknownst to them, was a member of the infamous Security Police. When they were stopped at a police roadblock in the township, police shot and killed all seven. It was reported at the time that terrorists had first fired on the police. |

Amy Biehl was a young American exchange student who studied at the University of Cape Town in 1993, a time of tension during the build up to the country's first democratic elections. She was killed in the township of Guguletu by young supporters of the Pan African Congress, a radical leftist party. They stoned and stabbed her to death. Her killers applied for, and were granted, amnesty through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. |
